Career Plans

I am an application support analyst for Cox AutoTrader.   I have been in the Information Technology industry for roughly 15 years.  It has not been my passion but it has paid the bill and will keep paying the bills until I am done with college.

This is my third time back to college.  Many of my family members say that I am a “professional student”.  They are correct.  Learning is a never ending process and I love every minute of it!

I started out this semester working toward a major in nursing.  I have been an EMT since 1994 and I love the work.  It is not only satisfying emotionally but believe it or not physically.  I am not one to "fly the desk" so to speak.  I wanted to take a language at Tidewater Community College and did not want to take French or Spanish since I have had 3 years in each of those languages.  I was going to take Italian but the college did not offer it.  I decide to take American Sign Language (ASL)  for a couple of reasons.  1)  It is a language and I love language.  2)  It is totally different than any other language I had ever taken.  3)  It would definitely benefit me in everyday life as well as in the medical field.  There is nothing worse than not being able to communicate with another person, especially in an emergency.  So I started taking ASL and I fell in love with it.  I have not only learned about the language but also about the culture.  I have met interesting and amazing people in the course of this class.  I have decided to go into ASL - English Interpretation so that I can be an interpreter.  I have decided to also stay in emergency services and will work toward a degree in paramedicine.
